What an amazing turnout at the Smith Point Hawk Watch Celebration, with a total of 150 guests! A lot of old and new friends came together in support of these amazing animals. Many connections were made, and we thank our wonderful guest and vendors for coming out!

Now on to recent events; it’s the BRRR season, as in it’s getting chilly out there. For a while, the mornings were feeling like fall and the afternoons, a boiling summer! We are now experiencing a cold front bringing on consistently cooler temperatures. Speaking of lower numbers, we have seen a decrease in our migrating raptors. We went from seeing over 3,000 to at most 600 in a day. As we move into the colder weather and into the later months, we begin to pass peak migration and will possibly continue to see more lower numbers. On to our non-raptor news. We have seen a ton of dragonflies, and every birder knows the split-second mistake of trying to figure out what “bird” that is! Finally, there has been a number of Scissor-tailed Flycatchers, White Pelicans, Wood Storks, and a couple of Indigo Buntings hanging around in recent days.
