Directions

From Houston, take 288 south to Lake Jackson. As soon as you arrive in Lake Jackson, take a right onto 2004 west. Continue on 2004 west to the 2nd traffic light, which will be HWY 332, turn west (right). On 332 you will see the Girl Scout camp on the left, then just before you get to the bridge over Buffalo Camp Bayou take a left onto a semi-paved road. Look for the large sign with our name. Drive through the gate and the woods to our building on the right. You cannot see the building from the road.

Things to do

  • Hike over two miles of birding trails
  • Watch for birds at the many bird feeding stations
  • Find brochures, maps and other information about our partner sites, local motels & restaurants, other near-by venues for nature viewing
  • Browse the well stocked Nature Store for field guides, GCBO merchandise, bird feeders, and nature oriented gifts for all ages.
  • Shop the GCBO nursery for unusual native or naturalized plants

Directions

Take FM 1495 over the bridge to the island of Quintana. Take the first left East onto Quintana Road, which turns into Lamar Street. Drive until you see our tower at the intersection of Lamar and 8th. You can park in the empty grass lot across the street.

Things to do

  • Hike our birding trails and climb the tower
  • Watch for birds at the many bird feeding stations and water features merchandise
  • Visit the nearby Xeriscape Park or Quintana Beach County Park

The tower is open everyday sunrise to sunset, though it is only staffed August 15-November 30

Directions

From Houston, take I-10 east to the Texas Hwy 61 exit. Turn south (right) on Hwy 61. In a few miles it changes number to FM 562 and continues south to Smith Point. At the intersection of FM 1985, which branches left at a Y intersection, continue right to Smith Point. Once in Smith Point continue on 562 until you pass Hawkins Camp Road on the right. Turn left at the next intersection and proceed to the parking lot for the tower.

  • Climb the tower
  • Watch for birds as they fly overhead or rest along the shore.
